I just had a visit from the people at AVAIRE. I wish to retract my previous comment. AVAIRE stands by their product!! The representative used KRUDKUTTER on my floor and was able to clean the residue!! Just make sure you let the solution soak for a minute or two and it will work!!

AVAIRE FLOORING is a great product - it looks fantastic!!

I will recommend this product to all our friends!!

Avaire Archive Vickie,

I'm not sure how we've gotten to this point. If I am not mistaken, you are located right here in Omaha. Please contact us and we'll send someone out to investigate. Our goal is to delight each and every customer, and you are clearly not a delighted customer. The office number is 402-505-7627.

A couple of points to consider:

1) Products like Magic Eraser are abrasive in nature. From Wikipedia: "Melamine foam is a made of a foam-like material consisting of a formaldehyde-melamine-sodium bisulfite copolymer. In the early 21st century it was discovered that melamine foam was an effective abrasive cleaner. The open cell foam is microporous and its polymeric substance is extremely hard, so that when used for cleaning it works like extremely fine sandpaper, getting into tiny grooves and pits in the object being cleaned." The ones we've found all instruct the consumer to "try in an inconspicuous area" to confirm the surface is not damaged.

2) There are hundreds of cleaning products available on the market, and we cannot possibly evaluate each to make compatibility recommendations. We have verified that Krud-Kutter works well to remove grout haze, and other citrus based cleaners are fine to use with Avaire tile. There are clearly some cleaning products that should not be used with Avaire tile and any other tile including products such as steel wool or any other product that uses abrasion to perform the cleaning action. If in doubt, please test the cleaner in a well lit, inconspicuous area.

3) I suspect the issue could be the grout haze (which is very glossy in nature) is being removed by the Magic Eraser leaving the natural glaze finish which, depending upon specific tile can be anywhere from a matte finish to glossy.

Once again, we welcome the opportunity to resolve this issue, but we will need to inspect the floor to determine the nature and root cause of the problem. Vickie - please call us at 402-505-7627 to schedule an inspection.

I see Avaire is not standing behind their product - there is NO resolution to the residue problem - they simply said that THEY do not recommend using MAGIC ERASER so .... they are NOT at fault -

I paid ALOT of money for a crappy looking floor!!

I am sure this posting will not make it to their website...

I guess I should contact BBB.

Didn't have time to test on the jobsite today so when I got home I had the kids color on the porcelain tile in the entry, it's the same type tile that Avaire uses. And yes my wife wasn't home! I followed the simple instructions on the package and checked to see if there were any warnings about using on tile, there were none. It cleaned the crayons very quickly so I rinsed the area and waited for it to dry. It left a dull chalky area, so I rinsed it again and it didn't come off. So needless to say don't use magic erasers on Avaire tile. I'll let you know what I end up doing because the rug in the entry won't cover it.Wish me luck. Thanks

After grouting, did the residue disappear?

Most of the time just the grouting process will clean any of the residue from the paper. If not i've used mineral spirts and had good luck. Hope this helps

cleaning sticker residue from top of tile

I noticed that as I pulled the tiles from their boxes, quite a few had paper/ sticker residue on top from the tile that was packed above it. I cleaned the sticky off w/ goo gone but when the tile is damp, I can make out words from the paper that was resting on it. How can I clean these tiles? I'm ready to grout, but don't want to risk the tiles looking like this when I'm finished.
