Another benifit of Avaire tile is if the concrete has cracks, control or saw joints, most concrete does, then expensive crack isolation membranes would be needed.

There are no special requirements for concrete - just make sure the floor is flat and stable (no loose concrete).

One rule of thumb is if the tile rocks on the floor, it is not flat enough.

If there are voids or low spots in the floor, use a self-leveling compound to fill. Avaire can be installed over cracked concrete as long as the concrete is level on both sides of the crack; that is, there cannot be any heaving on either side of the crack.

If you recently removed carpeting, please make sure no adhesive residue remains on the floor. It will complicate the installation process, and could cause some noise problems later (the adhesive sticks to the bottom of the Avaire tray, but can pull away making a "tearing" or "scraping" sound - like masking tape being pulled from a surface).

If there is adhesive residue, you can try to scrape it off, or it might be faster/easier to apply a skim coat that will cover the adhesive.

Lastly, keep in mind that Avaire, while made of moisture impervious materials and not harmed by water, does not solve or eliminate moisture issues. If you have a wet basement, the moisture under Avaire tile (and any other flooring choice for that matter) can lead to mold and mildew problems.

Thank you for considering Avaire tile for your basement! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Have been considering numerous options for flooring in our basement, where we just to out 1100sqft. of carpet. Does avaire have any special considerations when being laid directly on cement floor?
