RE: Suitable floor for installation Author: Jonathan Date: 2/12/2008 1:23 pm EDT With a level subfloor, you should not need to install backerboard. It won't hurt, but it would add time and cost to the project. The rule-of-thumb is if the tile rocks when you place it on the floor, the floor is not sufficiently level. You can definitely install directly above a vinyl floor. The prodcut is carried in select Home Depot stores in Canada, but not here in the US (yet). Currently, in the US, only 12x12 tiles are available. Home Depot Canada does carry 6x6 tiles that are "modular" with the system, meaning they interlock with the 12's like "lego's" for perfect fit and alignment. |

RE: Suitable floor for installation Author: Connie Garey Date: 2/12/2008 12:01 am EDT my sub floor is pretty level, should I put backerboard over my subfloor before I install avaire, my subfloor is about one inch thick. Is 12 inch square the only size your tile comes on. You said Home Depot carries your tile, do they have them in Baltimore. My third question, can you lay your tile over armstrong vinyl or does it have to be removed. Thank you |

RE: Suitable floor for installation Author: Joe Fuller Date: 1/14/2008 7:03 pm EDT Avaire is a floating floor so no thinset is needing, you can lay Avaire directly over your main floor as long as it is 3/4 of an inch,so you don't need to use platon or Schluter-Ditra. thank you Joe Fuller |

RE: Suitable floor for installation Author: James Von Rueden Date: 1/6/2008 10:09 pm EDT Can I install over platon underlayment for laminate floors or Schluter-Ditra underlayment for ceramic and stone tile. With the Schluter-Ditra they recommend using thin set to put it down, with this application would that be required? |

Suitable floor for installation Author: Michael Norton Date: 12/20/2007 12:58 am EDT I am considering Avaire for a second-story bathroom floor in which a new subfloor will be installed first. Is this a suitable floor for installation of Avaire? (Your website lists concrete and other "hard" surfaces only). |
