Underlayment
Author: David Harris
Date: 7/16/2008 3:54 pm EDT I have the sub floor, then a 1/4 inch underlayment, then the Avaire tile going on top of the underlayment. When I match the tile up to the carpet edge, the Avaire tile is a 1/4 inch higher than the carpeting. What type of transition strip do I need to install over the carpet and tile edge? I do believe it is ok to install the Avaire tile over the underlayment...correct? |

Date: 7/16/2008 4:49 pm EDT A "T" type transition can bridge the height difference between the carpet and tile. They typically have a "bracket" that attaches to the floor, and a "T" piece that clicks into the bracket. Most home centers or flooring stores carry a variety of transition pieces. Make sure they can accommodate the height difference and you'll be fine. Yes, you can install Avaire tile over a hard, flat, and structurally sound underlayment. |
