I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "plane to the center". If you mean there is a low area in the center of the room, it still may be fine to install Avaire directly. The technical "flatness" spec is 1/4" over 10 feet; however, the common sense approach is if a tile "rocks" then your floor is not flat enough. Or if there is a "depression" deep enough that there is a significant void under a tile, the floor is not flat enough. A self-leveling compound will solve most of those problems quickly and easily.
