Do I grout around perimeter by cabinets?

Hi
I am installing tile in our kitchen and I have a sliding glass door and the cabinets to deal with. Do I grout the line closest to the kickplate and up to the sliding glass door? I of course will have to caulk by the sliding glass door if I don't grout. Will I caulk along the kickplate if I don't do a grout line right next to it? Is it possible to do a grout line that close? My husband thinks we should grout right up to the kickplate so it looks like the tile is underneath. thanks, Erica

We typically recommend using a color-matched caulk around the outside perimeter. For the groutlines that are perpendicular to the kick-plate, you can grout right to the edge so it looks like the tile goes under the kick-plate.

Thanks for the reply! I should leave a 1/4" edge there so I can us that grout along the edge then.

You will generally need to leave a 1/4" gap along the perimeter. However, we typically recommend using a caulk around the perimeter, and not grout.
