Plastic Tabs on Perimeter

Do the plastic tabs on the perimeter need to be removed? Only one wall will be seen so I'm not worried about centering the tile. I've removed the base board so there is actually space underneath the wall board for the plastic tabs. Also there is a tub - will the tabs need to be removed on that perimeter as well?
