From tile to carpet...

If i am going to tile a small area but not the whole room, do i need to clip off the exposed tabs on the side of the tile that the carpet will be laid up to? Is there also something that i will have to fasten to the floor, butted up against the side of the tile to prevent them from "floating" too much?
